Drawing flak after releasing the official OnePlus 5 renders, a product manager from OnePlus took to Chinese Q&A board Zhihu to address criticisms on the flagship phone’s design. Most criticisms point to how the new OnePlus 5 looks way too similar to the iPhone 7 and how the camera protrudes at the back, making it unappealing.
The Product Manager talked about getting the same reactions following the release of the official renders of their previous flagship phone, the OnePlus 3, with many voicing out its generic looks and how it could easily pass up as an old HTC phone. Many of the critics later changed their mind and the OnePlus 3 became a success, followed by the OnePlus 3T version. OnePlus believes history will repeat itself with the OnePlus 5.
The OnePlus 5 will be officially unveiled on June 20 and is planning to be released in two variants; a 6GB RAM/64GB storage and another 8GB RAM/128GB storage. Powered, by the latest Snapdragon 835, it’s looking like the black will be the standard hue and not be a special edition color as is with the Midnight Black 3T. OnePlus is planning to phase out the 6GB RAM/64GB OnePlus 3T once the OnePlus 5 gets released. You can get yours at a discounted price here.
