Samsung and Apple has locked horns again, this time over a patent for wireless charging via smartphone cases. This was revealed by the U.S Patent and Trademark Office. According to the U.S PTO, Apple was the first one to file for the said patent, according to reports last May 2017, with the South Korean giant following suit.
Samsung filed the patent which will allow them to develop the technology needed for their upcoming wearables to be charged on smartphone cases. Both tech giants will rely on ultra high frequency waves, called millimeter waves, to implement the plans. It’s worth noting that the forthcoming 5G technology, also hinges on the idea of millimeter waves, which is ideal for transmitting large amounts of data. There is no word yet when the technology will be made available.
